Suraj Tal is a lake situated in Lahaul & Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 4950 meters above sea level which is known as the third-largest lake in India. The literal meaning of Suraj Lake, situated in the Spiti Valley is 'Lake of the Sun God'. You must go to see this stunning lake just below the Baralacha Pass. This place is like a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. There is such a belief about this lake that taking a dip here destroys all the sins. This lake attracts many people to its side, hence this lake is considered spiritual. This lake is also more popular because it comes along the Manali-Leh road, which is very popular for trekking and bike trips. Suraj Tal Lake is very special for both adventurous and spiritual people.

Suraj Tal Trek is a popular trek which is very much liked by the tourists who visit the lake. The trekking starts from a camp house in Spiti called Zingjingbar. This place is 18.8 kms away from the lake. To reach Zingjingbar, tourists have to take a car/taxi via Manali-Leh Highway. After reaching Zingjingbar, trekkers have to cross a bridge on the northern bank towards the Bhaga River, which is about 3 km away. After crossing the river, tourists have to climb a steep hill for 2.5 km and then reach Suraj Tal Lake. The most important thing about this lake is that this lake changes its color sometimes in a day, you will see this lake sometimes blue, sometime, sometime orange, sometime red and sometimes green, this lake keeps changing its color like this throughout the day. Chandratal lake is also a great place for camping, here you can enjoy beautiful view of galaxy with borne fire by camping here at night.

How To Reach Surajtal Lake

Suraj Tal doesn’t have a train or air connectivity, but it is well-connected with road, and you can easily reach here by hiring a taxi or cab from Keylong (administrative centre of the Lahaul and Spiti District)Suraj Tal is located at around 65 kilometres from Keylong. Keylong is easily accessible through road from National Highway NH 21, also renowned as Manali-Leh highway. This is the most prominent road link for the inhabitants of Lahaul & Spiti. The road that leads to Suraj Tal is only 3 km away from Bara-lacha la pass. This scenic route is totally inaccessible during winters.
