Kareri Lake is a shallow and fresh water lake located in the Dhauladhar range, about 9 km northwest of Dharamsala in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, with a surface of 2934 m above sea level. Apart from being a major sightseeing spot, Kareri Lake is also a very popular trekking spot in the Dhauladhar Range. The water in this lake is obtained from melting snow and this lake Kaif is shallow and the visibility of the water in it is very high. Most of the backpackers traveling to Himachal Pradesh come for the Triund or Indrahar Pass circuit trekking. It is a short trek to Karari Lake which gives a luxurious and serene experience.

Kareri Lake looks extremely attractive especially in the winter in months of  December to March when it is frozen and an air of calmness envelops it. Kareri Lake is a place that tourists must visit, as it is a paradise for tourists and especially for nature lovers. The adventurous trek to Kareri Lake gives tourists a chance to explore the rich flora and fauna of the region. The area around the lake is surrounded by lush tropical deodar forests. Chir and Chilgoza pines are full of this forest. The areas around Kareri Lake have a large variety of birds which can be easily spotted due to the low canopy. On the other side of the trail, tourists can see rocky meadows.

One of the major attractions near Kareri Lake is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti. This sacred and attractive temple is situated on the top of a hill, from where one can have a breathtaking view of the lake. On the other side of the lake you can also see some small shelters  which are used by Gaddis for grazing their cattle. The main attraction here is the fun and adventurous trek, when tourists visit here they can also take part in local tours on the trek and adventure activities like Tyrolean traversing. The Kareri Lake serves as a base for further advance into the Dhauladhar range, then to Chamba and Bharmour, through the Minkiani Pass (4250 m above sea level) and the Baleni Pass (3710 m above sea level).
