Khajjiar is a plateau region located in the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalyas. Despite being situated in the huge mountains of the Himalayas, grassland are found in Khajjiar. Because of these grasslands, Khajjiar is also called Switzerland of India. Situated in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Khajjiar is a famous tourist destination in India, suorrounded by the dense deodar forests. Almost all the travelers visiting Dalhousie definitely write the name of Khajjiar in their bucket list. The distance from Dalhousie to Khajjiar is only 24 kilometers and its altitude is 1900 meters (6233 feet) above sea level. There is also a interesting story behind Khajjiar being called Mini Switzerland. The Vice Counselor of Switzerland Willie P. Blaser visited khajjiar on 07 July 1992 and Called khajjiar with the name "Mini Switzerland". Willie P. Blaser also marked the walking distance of 6194 kilometers (3849 miles) from Khajjiar to the Swiss capital Bern on a sign board in Khajjiar. Khajjiar is one of the 160 such places in the world whose topographical similarity is very similar to the topographical conditions of Switzerland. Willie P. Blazer had also taken a piece of stone with him from Khajjiar at that time and he got the pieces of that stone placed in the Parliament of Switzerland. The main center of attraction in Khajjiar is the Khajjiar Lake. Due to the lake situated in the middle of the grasslands of Khajjiar, Khajjiar looks very much like the plains of Switzerland. This lake is the most suitable place to spend time with your family and friends. This lake is surrounded by huge deodar and pine trees, is not less than a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. Beautiful views of sunrise are seen from near the lake, the sunlight coming through the deodar and pine trees makes you feel a different kind of pleasant sunrise. Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is known for the wide variety of flora and fauna found here. In this sanctuary, you can spot langurs, jackals, bears, deer, leopards and Himalayan black marten as well as countless fascinating birds. The place is covered with deodar trees with small streams flowing into the Ravi River. If you are looking for a good picnic spot in Khajjiar and are interested in adventure sports then Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is a must visit. This area is a great place for trekking, picnics and nature walks. Many endangered species of animals and birds are also found in this wildlife sanctuary. 3. Khajji Nag Temple

Khajji Nag Temple is located at a short distance from the Khajjiar Lake, this temple was built in the 12th century by the then ruler of Chamba, Prithvi Singh. Khajji Nag Temple is also known as "Swarna Devi Temple" because of the golden dome built on the top of the temple. The frescoes of the Pandavas and Kauravas of the Mahabharata period have also been carved in the interior of the temple. Wood has been used to build the sanctum of the temple, very fine carvings have been done on the wood used in the construction of the sanctum. The deity of Nag Devta has been installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Apart from the idol of Nag Devta, many snake idols are also found in the temple premises. Apart from the idols of Nag Devta and Snakes, there are also ancient idols of Lord Shiva and Hidimba inside the temple.

4. Church of Scotland

The British spent much of the colonial period in the areas around Dalhousie, Khajjiar and Chamba. During their reign, the British built many types of buildings in this area. Apart from administrative buildings, the British also built many churches around this are and  all the buildings and churches built in this area are influenced by British architecture. The Church of Scotland, located 22 km from Khajjiar, is also a colonial-era church, which was constructed in 1899 by the then Raja Sham Singh. The construction work of the Church of Scotland lasted for 6 years and its construction was completed on 1905. It is said that this church was completed was under the supervision of Scottish monk Dr. M'Clymont. The church is considered one of the best built in the colonial period in the region.

6. Panch Pandav Tree

Panch Pandav Tree remain the center of attraction for tourists visiting Khajjiar. There are 6 different twigs coming out from the root of this tree. There is a very strong belief associated with this tree among the local residents. According to the local residents of Khajjiar, the 6 branches of this tree point to the five Pandavas of the time of Mahabharata and the sixth branch of this tree points to Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas. A few kilometers away from this tree, there is also a deodar tree on Dalhousie and Khajjiar road, a total of 13 twigs of this tree have come out. Because of these 13 twigs, this tree is also called "Mother Tree". Five Pandav Trees are located near the rest house built in the Khajjiar grounds, from this tree there is also a road towards the school built in Khajjiar and a small village.
